Bible Study for Men: Three Tips to Get More Out of Your Scripture Reading

  • Read Actively – Our first tip for approaching Scripture reading in our Bible study for men is to read the text actively. This means you shouldn’t just glance over the words but should consider the meaning and implications of the text. You should especially take note of any questions that occur to you as you read, as pursuing those questions with your study group is fruitful ground to learn more and grow in understanding.
  • Understand Genre and Context – Our next tip for engaging in our Bible study for men is to learn about the historical context of the writing of each book of the Bible, as God spoke to different people in different times and places. The language He uses and instructions He gives in one place and time can differ from those He gives later. In addition, it’s important to know that the books of the Bible have different genres—for example, Exodus is a book of history and Revelation is a book of prophecy. You need to read them in light of their genres in order to gain true understanding.
  • Pray on Your Reading – Our third tip for our Bible study for men is to keep prayer a part of the process. If you don’t understand something, pray on it and ask God to enlighten you.
