At Summit Bible Center, we want to help all Christians grow in their faith. One way we do this is by providing group Bible study sessions. We offer regular Bible study for both men and women, and we can’t emphasize enough how significant these communities become to our participants’ faith journeys. In this article, we will focus on Bible study for women, offering a few tips to help you ladies get the most out of your scripture reading.

Bible Study for Women: How to Get the Most from Your Reading

  • Research the Context – Our first tip engaging in Bible study for women is to research the historical context of each book. Remember, the books of the Bible were set down at different times and for different audiences and purposes, and reading them in light of that knowledge helps build a deeper understanding of God’s message. God spoke to the people in a way they would understand within their particular social and historical context, which might be different from our context today.
  • Understand Genre Conventions – Our next tip for Bible study for women is to understand the conventions associated with the different genres of the books. For example, the book of Psalms is a work of poetry intended to be performed with musical accompaniment—it’s essentially the first hymnal—and it cannot be read in the same way that you would read Genesis, an account of history.
  • Pray on the Text – Our third tip for getting the most out of our Bible study for women is to incorporate prayer into your reading. Before you sit down to study, ask the Lord to help you understand the text and internalize its wisdom.
